New Year and Policy Changes

Hello all,

I hope this finds you well and surviving the busy days that the holidays bring.  First lets start with a reminder that Group Classes will be held next week.  The schedule is as follows.

December Studio Classes

Littles - December 14th 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Elementary Group (ages 7-12) - December 14th  4:30-6:00 p.m.

Junior High Group -December 15th  3:00-5:00 p.m.

High Schoolers will be having a rehearsal on Dec. 19th from 9:00-10:00 a.m.  at my home, and then will perform for the Lindon Senior Center's Lunch on Monday December 21st, from 11:30-1:00.  Originally we had planned to play at the Food and Care Coalition for some homeless families but I was informed that they were double booked so we will have to try again next year.  Please let me know if your high schooler can make it to this wonderful service opportunity.

There will be no lessons over Christmas Break.  We will resume regular lessons on January 4th.

Policy Changes

As we approach the new year there will be a few changes to how my studio is run.  Instead of a pay by the lesson scenario, which I have done since I started teaching 15 years ago, I will now be doing tuition pricing.

Tuition rates are $100 a month even on months with 5 lessons.  The exception to this rule will be the months that hold spring break, and Christmas.  Those will be determined based on how many lessons will be held.

If your child cannot make it to their regular lesson, I can now offer make up times on Thursday at 6:15, Friday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. or Saturday from 9:00- 11:30 a.m.  After March I will also be able to add more times on Thursdays.  If your child cannot make any of these times, you will still be charged for the missed lesson.

If for any reason I need to cancel, you will be credited $25 per lesson for the following month.

If any of you have any issues with the above policies, please feel free to contact me.  I would be happy to discuss the changes and any concerns you may have.  These policies will begin in January 2016.

I wish you all the best during this busy Holiday season.

Cheers!

Recital Dates and Studio Classes for Fall/Winter 2015

Hello all,

I hope you are all doing well and settling into the busy routine of school.  I have a few dates for you to mark on your calendars for upcoming events.

Studio Recital Dates

There are three recital dates below.  Please look at your schedule and let me know what night would work best for your schedule.  If you are flexible and have more than one date that would work, please let me know.  There will be a $15 recital fee per child due with November's tuition.

November 2nd, at 6:30 p.m.

November 5th, at 6:30 p.m.

November 9th, at 6:30 p.m.

Studio Classes

Studio Classes are a great way to practice performing in front of our peers as well as learning new music theory and music history skills.  I know it can be tricky when I change schedules, but please try to make these group times work.  Studio Classes take the place of regular lessons that week.

October Studio Classes

Littles (ages 3-6) - October 5th 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Elementary Group (ages 7-12) - October 5th 4:30-6:00 p.m.

High School Group - October 6th 5:00-6:30 p.m.

Junior High Group -December 15th  3:00-5:00 p.m.

High School Group - Instead of having a group class in December for my high schoolers, we will be playing Christmas songs for the Osmond Senior Living Rest Home in Lindon.  Date and time is still to be determined.  Christmas is such a great time to share our talents!

Fiddle Recital 2015

Hello All!

We are getting closer to not only the Fiddle Recital, but to our Fall schedule as well.  Just a reminder, the Fiddle Recital will be on August 21st at 6:30 p.m.  at Lindon Park.  Please be there by 6:15 so that I can get everyone tuned and we can start on time.  Dress is casual with cowboy hats, boots, and enormous belt buckles encouraged! Feel free to bring camping chairs or blankets if you wish to sit on the lawn as there will not be enough room for everyone under the pavilion.  Don't forget to include the recital fee of $15  in this month's tuition.

There will be a group rehearsal for Bile Them Cabbage Down this Saturday, August 15th at 10:00 a.m. at my church located at 381 S 300 E American Fork, 84003 (just two blocks east of my home).  All students participating in the Fiddle Recital are playing this number so I hope to see you there.

There will be group rehearsal for all of those playing How to Train Your Dragon and Devil Went Down to Georgia on Thursday, August 20th at 186 N 980 E Lindon, 84042. Rehearsal Starts at 6:00 p.m.

If you are interested in either the children's orchestra or youth orchestra that was mentioned in a previous post, please feel free to head over to our website  here and register.

One last reminder that Fall Schedule will begin next week even though school does not start until Wednesday.  Thank you so much for letting me teach your wonderful kiddos and good luck with the beginning of this school year!

That is because my children's orchestra TACO (The Awesome Children's Orchestra) is switching from Fridays to Thursdays.  We are also starting Lindon Chamber Orchestra this fall which is a youth orchestra with Junior High and early High School aged musicians.  I'd love to see some of you there! We will have tuition pricing and exact times soon.

On another note, I originally told you I would not be teaching the first week of August due to a string camp but that string camp has been canceled so I will now be teaching the entire week.

Lastly, this week is the last week in the old house so make sure to remember to come to 247 S 100 E in American Fork starting next Monday. Hope you are all enjoying your summer!

Cheers!

JULY 24th
AUGUST 3
AUGUST 4
AUGUST 7

Please mark these on your calendars.

Summer fiddle recital was originally planned for August 14th but it looks like it is a bad weekend so we will be holding it on Friday, AUGUST 21st at 6:00 p.m.  This date is a little unusual as that will be the first week of school but I'm hoping more will be able to attend. It will be held at Lindon Park and the dress is casual or cowboy or cowgirl attire! There will be $15 recital fee.

The Listening Challenge is still going on.  I've had one student already do her 100 times listening and she earned a 2 liter bottle of ginger ale! I'd love to see more finishing up on their listening. For this summer, I will be issuing a new challenge. Summer is a great time to be listening on long car rides or plan adventures to new places.  It will involve a points system.

For Elementary Aged Kids :
If you listen to a symphony in its entirety, then you will earn 5 points.
If you listen to a string quartet in its entirety, then you will earn 5 points.
IF you listen to a violin or viola concerto in its entirety, then you will earn 5 points.
If you create a piece of art while listening then you will earn 5 points.
If you create a story while listening then you will earn 5 points.
If you watch Fantasia or Fantasia 2000 then you will earn 5 points each.
Going to an art museum will earn you 10 points.
If you go to live symphony concert then you will earn 10 points.
If you perform for 5 different people this summer then you will earn 5 points.

Rewards:
5 points = one thing from the treat box
10 points= one thing from the toy box
20 points = 2 liter bottle of soday, King size candy bar, or larger toy.

For Junior High and High Schoolers:

If you listen to a symphony, or orchestral work in its entirety, then you will earn 5 points.
If you listen to a string quartet in its entirety, then you will earn 5 points.
IF you listen to a violin or viola concerto in its entirety, then you will earn 5 points.
If you create a piece of art while listening then you will earn 5 points.
If you create a story while listening then you will earn 5 points.
Going to an art museum will earn you 10 points.
If you go to live symphony concert then you will earn 10 points.
If you perform for 5 different people this summer then you will earn 10 points.

Rewards:
5 points= Small treat
10 points= $1
20 points = $5 or gift card to cold stone or itunes.

I know this might seem silly, especially for my wonderful older students, but listening to great works of art can inspire us in so many ways! Get out there and enjoy some music and art.  Here are some suggestions of things to listen to if you need some help getting started. Good Luck!
